Each term, students are required to seek out a concert to attend in the area. The concert must be a choral concert/festival or classical vocal recital presented at the high school level or higher. Please note that the event must be intended to be a musical concert and not a religious event (fireside, conference, etc.). For example, I would consider Music and the Spoken Word a musical concert whereas listening to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir during a session of the LDS General Conference is a religious event. A cappella groups are not considered choirs (i.e. Vocal Point, Noteworthy, etc.). If you know of opportunities for completing this assignment, let Mr. Wiser know so he can add it to the website.
After attending the concert, students will then write a report based on what they observed. It should not simply be a summary of the concert. It must be well organized (introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion). The report should identify 2-3 things you learned and include specific evidence/observations from the concert to support your ideas. This should be a developed and well thought out report as you would write for an English class. See the grading rubric posted in the classroom for additional guidelines.
The concert reports must be typed, two pages, double-spaced, with 12 pt. Times New Roman font. Print your report, attach a rubric to the back, and turn in a hard copy to the class tray by Mr. Wiser’s office by 3 pm on the dates listed below. Emails will not be accepted in place of a hard copy.
