AP Music Theory
At PHS, AP Music Theory is taught in school years that begin with an even year (every other year). On this page you will find important course information and extra study materials. If you miss a class, be sure to refer to the course outline and with your classmates to find out what was covered so you can keep up with the pace of class.
All the policies and procedures for the AP Music Theory Class are found in the course disclosure. Included with the course disclosure is the course outline with a preliminary plan of what we will cover each day of the course (this is subject to change). Please review this document at the beginning of the school year and complete the disclosure acknowledgement form.

Term 1 Exam Prep
Your exam will test all the knowledge and skills we have covered this term. They are broken down into these skill sets:
- Reading
- Writing
- Hearing
- Singing
The questions may include multiple choice, fill in the blank, free response, notation, and analysis questions. Some may require you to sing, dictate, and/or play the keyboard. Be sure to review the work we've done in Chapters 1-3 as well as your vocabulary list, charts in the textbook, quizzes, worksheets, etc.
Here are some links to the exercises on musictheory.net that I've customized for you. This may seem like a lot if you haven't made a habit of practicing these skills daily. If you are able to complete each of them with an 80% proficiency after 20 attempts, you will be in good shape for our exam in October. Remember, if these are too difficult you can customize your own exercises by visiting www.musictheory.net.
